Beyond the Last Bend

The day that I'll reach the end of the way

With my strength spent and devoid of words

I wish for a sunset burning in the sky

Like in a dream I dreamt once upon a time.

My face that tears traced as I roamed the land

I will rest carefully on my parchment-like hand

Resembling a flower of an origami master:

A beautifully fragile arthritic disaster.

I will stroke death like the fur of a cat

And not even for a while will I cry —

All cravings that would make me stay

Will have long been lost on the way.

I will be glad to have — at last — some rest

Holding darkness tight against my breast

Snug in nothingness filled with serenity

And eternally smiling at eternity.
